How did you find Tokio Hotel? And what made you fall in love...lust? with them?

It was 2006, and I saw a picture of these four German kids on ONTD that reminded me of an infantile AFI in a way. Around the same time, word of their music was making its way through the AFI community and I ended up saying wth, give it a listen, but I wasn't expecting much...

Whoaaaa.... Bang. Owned.

I think it was their energy and intensity, their honest-to-fuck "This is what we want to do and dammit we're doing it and up yours if you don't like it" attitude that got me hooked. If the music had been crap I'd have moved along and never looked back. Even being aware they had 'assistance' writing their music didn't really put me off. And to be perfectly honest, the G's evident, solid talent is what sold me on them being a real band making real music. Those two have the chops and they've proven it all along.

I love the twins, don't get me wrong, but let's just say Bill's... certainly matured as a singer, though he could use a bit more vocal training, and Tom is a passable rhythm guitarist at best trying to make his way as a lead. I hope he's allowed to take the time and training he needs to become a more solid player. The "solos" that have started making their way into live shows are an excellent start, but he needs the confidence and the teaching to really make it burn.

I'm so proud of how far they've come from the four-odd years ago since I found out about them. I'm really looking forward to seeing where they go from here.

Have at it.

What is a recurring dream of yours?

University stress dreams. The ones where either I haven't been to class all semester and today's the final, and I can't even find the room it's in and don't know the work... or the one where it's the last day to move out of the dorms and I haven't packed anything yet and I'm running out of time. I had a twist on this one recently where even though in the dream I was aware I'd already GRADUATED uni, I was somehow still back in highschool and had a final in a class I hadn't ever been to and wouldn't graduate if I didn't pass and ...yeah. Stress dreams. Logic, they contain none.

You haven't said anything yet about the DADT repeal. What are your thoughts on it?

Also watching Lt. Dan Choi's comments and experience to see how this goes. e.g. here:

"Reclaiming my West Point ring at 1p in the majority leader's office. I'm grateful for his leadership, service, and safe-keeping."

So there may yet be better things coming there.

You haven't said anything yet about the DADT repeal. What are your thoughts on it?

I'm of mixed opinion. On the one, yes, it's a landmark as far as equality goes. On the other, it has no provision as yet for the dishonorable discharges, and loss of everything their time in the forces meant for all the queer servicemen and servicewomen endured previously, so I'm waiting to see how that plays out; if they re-enlist now, what happens and so forth. I'm also somewhat concerned with the backlash yet to come.

Which Queen song should Tokio Hotel cover?

'39 comes to mind right off the bat. Fits with the aliens and space theme they have going right now.

But I think hearing them do Who Wants To Live Forever might reduce me to a soggy little puddle on the floor. Bill's voice could do it justice, too.

Could you be more specific?

It's different for every person.

Have at it.

How do you let people know that you love them?

same as they tell me.. words and actions.

Have at it.

So, given a choice between a perfectly healthy and otherwise identical, but female-gendered body, and your current one?

If permanently female... no, I don't think I could do it and stay sane. I wouldn't have any idea how to exist as a straight female after this many years of living within my current ideology and experience, and especially no, no, NO if it would mean losing my relationship.

Have at it.

What if a new body meant a change of gender, or a different racial appearance? Would it make a difference if the changes were only temporary?

Race wouldn't matter in the slightest.

Female... not sure I could handle that, unless it was VERY temporary - might be fun for a little while, satisfy some curiosities and so on, but I don't think I could live that way forever.

Have at it.

If you were given the chance to have a new, undamaged body, would you take it? Even if it meant having one that was drastically different to what you have now?

Depends just how drastically different, and in what ways. Likely yes, I would, but with certain caveats...

If you could interview anyone from your life living or dead, but not a celebrity, who would it be and why?

My uncle Bill, Dad's twin brother.
There's so much I still want to ask him, so much I never got a chance to know. I always wonder what he'd think of me now.

What would you say your greatest achievement is?

I don't think I've done it yet.

Have at it.

What frightens you?

Mediocrity. Failure. Same thing really.

Which is a stronger emotion: anger or love?

Two sides of the same coin. Anger is the opposite of love, not hate.

Have at it.

Where is your most special place?

Amherst MA.

Have at it.

Both? It would be interesting to hear which you find more significant.

there's neither one more significant than the other; it's learning to see it in the little things that people do and act on, that can speak so much louder than words if only you know to listen. in an age when the word "love" gets applied to things like laundry detergent and fast food, it's been so cheapened that you have to look past it and see it in someone's behavior.

•listening to me whine at 2am over AIM or IRC. •putting up with me being absurdly spontaneous and fronting me the cash to get something inked in a hurry. •knitting me a hat that has room for my dreads in. •making a phone call for me when i'm having too much of a panic day to deal with it myself, when a grown man should fucking well be able to just do it and i can't. •pet-sitting on short notice. •writing something just knowing i'll squee over it •making the effort and travel to come to one of our parties even though it's a distance and work is being a pain in the ass •posting on LJ just for me when everything's fallen apart again...

there's hundreds of ways people say it without ever -saying- it.

When was the last time someone (other than your husband immediate family/whatever) told you they love you?

In words or actions?
