Usually my cats and music are my comfort. Do you find that your pets comfort you when you're upset? (I think that animals, cats, in particular are very intuitive)
Not really. My dogs just remind me that I can't take them on the walks I used to. The cats... I think I'm too shut-down to get any kind of comfort from anything these days. Nice when they come sleep on me when I'm crashing on the couch, but otherwise..
formspring.me
What are the main things that keep you going, aside from music?
RP, art, writing... but those are fleeting, don't always work, can make things worse when they don't work out.
formspring.me
With everything that goes on in your life, have you found a way to deal with it, even just bitter/sarcastic humor?
I can make darkly humorous statements about it to people sometimes but overall no, nothing ever really helps.
formspring.me
You seem angry and depressed a lot on you livejournal. Do you just post about the bad stuff, or is there not a lot of good things happening?
At this point it's an accurate representation of what my life's like right now. The last two years have been a complete fucking nightmare and there have been damned few bright spots or even a reason to smile. Most days I'm hanging on by my fingernails just to get by, to be completely frank.
I cling to music to get me through. When even that fails me everything gets darker.
formspring.me
What advice would you give someone who needs to explain to their parents that their roommate is actually their boyfriend, the girlfriend they've mentioned on and off doesn't exist, and that really, no, it's not a phase?
well.. assuming you're male as well here, I don't figure you'd have to come out as straight....
depends on the parents and their background, religious or not religious, other gays in the family and if so how that was handled, whooooole bunches of if's and what's there.
if being out means they disown you vs being out means a lot of uncomfortable talks but not being outright kicked out of the family, whether you have any kind of financial dependence on them or not and if that would be withheld if you're out.. all of this affects the approach you take. as well as if you're ready to handle whatever shitstorm this might throw at you.
above all else YOU have to be in the right place, emotionally and mentally, to do this. in the end it doesn't matter how they're going to react; it's only yourself and your readiness for that reaction that will matter.
formspring.me
How do you 'sort of' have sex, or is that one of those 'you don't want to know' questions?
you really don't wanna know. A W K W A R D.
formspring.me
Sounds like you were one of the kids the religious right are scared will take over the world.
the religious reich has everything to fear from me.

I think I've seen that. I'm not too big on dyed-black hair though. It looks greasy IMHO. Strangest color you've dyed your hair?
Hrm.
I had it half-black half-white for a long time, circa 1994-95. THAT was fun. I miss that a lot.
Had to redye it normal when I got the EMT job though.. doesn't present a professional image and all of that..
I've had it bleached pure white, half-white half-black, all black, red with black streaks. I should re-do my black stripes, those were fun.
The trick with making dyed-black hair look good and not greasy or otherwise weird is to make sure the base color matches your complexion. For me I needed a red-based black, and that worked really well.
For someone without the ruddy undertones, go with the blue-based black.

Candy is a: Awesome b: More awesome than Hugh Jackman
Very few things are more awesome than Mr. Jackman.
formspring.me
Drumming I guessed from the 'short angry dude' part. Trumpet is a surprise though :)
After going through a number of stringed instruments I didn't get along with, in school about 1983 I got tossed in a roomful of brass instruments with the other kids and told "Try all of them and see what works".
I had a lot of fun with it, was good enough to be the youngest kid in the school "senior band", then auditioned for the All-Town bands and got into those too.. we did a bunch of traveling and performing, state competitions and public performances. I really wish I'd kept up with it, I've picked my trumpet up a few times recently and tried to get back into it but it's going to take work.
Trumpet works for being small and loud... I might be a little guy but I can damned well make you notice me, playing that thing ;)
formspring.me
Have you ever done drag?
Yeah, a few times, it's amusing. I have one icon in my LJ from a drag scene, back when my hair was dyed black.
formspring.me
No denial or anything at all?
Pretty hard to be in denial when you're being raised by lesbian moms and your dad's identical twin brother is gay too.
formspring.me
Has your daughter ever asked you a really awkward question? Awkward in any instance.
oh lord, several. it's part of the whole parenting thing to figure out how to handle those when they happen, with any kind of grace or finesse and not stumbling all over oneself.
Sometimes she does get the "That is not an appropriate thing to be talking about" answer, but most of them I do my damndest to answer honestly and without embarrassing her or making things seem taboo or "dirty". We've tried to be completely open with her, as I've said before, so by and large the awkward moments are few and far between.
She's sprung a few on her Aunties that I end up hearing about later that make me facepalm, but they've been honest with her when it happens as well and she knows she can go to them if it's something she'd rather talk to a female about.
formspring.me
Seems like you figured yourself out pretty quickly. Was it really that easy? (And that singer... I'll go out on a limb and say Bono)
Actually no... I first encountered him in 1984, preadolescence, so he was more in the "wanna be like when I grow up" slot than the "unf" slot... though that did later change around 1987.
There wasn't much to figure out. It was a bit like Stephen Fry puts it, about "looking up at his mum as he was being born and saying "Right, that's the last time I'm going up one of those".."
formspring.me
Do you have a favorite family member?
Nah, my mind really doesn't work that way. Seeing my goddaughter is special in its own way though, so maybe that counts.
formspring.me
What instruments did you play?
Jazz and classical trumpet, electric bass, singing, occasional keyboards, some drumming. I really miss the jazz band, we had a fucking blast out there and soloing was fun.
formspring.me
How did you figure out you were gay?
Always knew I wasn't like other kids. Adolescence hits like a hammer, flailing hormones abound and suddenly I'm dreaming endlessly of a certain pop singer of the era... this was 1985-86, mind you. "Oh hell..." If you know me at all, you know who he was.
formspring.me
Ever performed on stage?
Yeah, I was in several bands through gradeschool and highschool. I miss it in a lot of ways. You really do become someone else for a little while, at least on a good night. A bad show can be wrenching.
formspring.me
Do you ever watch porn, or just read it?
Just read it.. watching it bores the hell out of me.

One fictional character that you'd happily have sex with:
It'd have to be some kind of slashverse for Kurt to be interested in me. :p
formspring.me
Have you found Jesus? So far, I've looked everywhere I can think, and no luck.
I grew up in a Hispanic neighborhood, all I had to do was call his name and he'd show up.
formspring.me
Is there anything you would blow up your crotch for? (As in, explosives.)
Like... blow my bits off for?
Urrhh. It'd have to be pretty damned important for that.

Worlds sexiest accent?
doesn't matter the nationality so much... it's that point where the person's so involved or overcome by whatever's going on that the accent thickens, and they become truer to their real voice. that's sexy.....
(americans are excluded from this of course, yuck)
formspring.me
Did you see Stef's gluten-free dumpling recipe?
I did! I'm a bit stymied by the "self rising" thing, as that's hard to come by here, I'd have to figure out how to make it myself with yeast and baking powder or whatever.
formspring.me
You're supposed to have it at breakfast. But then you carry on until you finish the bottle, and that can take all day...
lol, sounds awesome if you're the drinking type
formspring.me
Ever set fire to something while cooking?
Sadly, no. There are no epic grease fires in my tales of cookery.
formspring.me
Buck's Fizz is cheap fizzy wine with orange juice. It's supposed to be champagne, but that's expensive. Traditional christmas drink.
Aaah. Over here orange juice and champagne (or fizzy wine thereof) is a mimosa. Breakfast drink. :3
formspring.me
The Redwall books are awesome for that age-group too. I read them to death!
Also noted. Thank you!
formspring.me
Stef shot me with the Bucks Fizz! It's not my fault!
Explain to the Yank what a buck's fizz is?
formspring.me
Dry white toast, or four fried chickens and a coke?
toast, if it's glutenfree or i can magically eat it without getting sick.
formspring.me
Be honest: http://tinyurl.com/y87yvpy did you laugh?
I didn't, though I did make the O_o face....
formspring.me
For pre-teen/teen girls, I'd recommend Harry Potter, Graceling (Kristin Cashore), the Song of the Lioness Quartet (Tamora Pierce), & the Protector of the Small Quartet (also Tamora Pierce).
*makes list* Thanks muchly!
formspring.me
What would you do if $150 arrived anonymously in the mail?
I'd.... blink a lot and try to figure out where it came from via the postmark so I'd know who to pay it back to.
formspring.me
11 is the perfect age for Garth Nix. I'd send you the Old Kingdom trilogy, but I have them all in hardback. Look out for Sabriel, and the books that follow on. Absolutely amazing. Also Tamora Peirce, if you're not already.
B'lieve my moms have her on a Pierce series now already actually.
I'll hit up the library, if they don't have them they can get them. Thanks!
formspring.me
Are taking book recommendations now? Because Garth Nix is AWESOME
Always taking recs as far as Stuff Kid Should Be Reading, I'm not as up on the current scene as I could be.... bear in mind she's 11 in February.
formspring.me
How far in debt are you? (yell me if Im stepping over a line here)
Quite a bit of medical debt which will be taken care of by the legal proceedings, and the mortgage on the house.
formspring.me
Has your daughter read "Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret" ? If not, I recommend it :)
Actually I think my mom got her a whole bunch of Judy Blume books, I suspect that one is amongst them. Thanks for the rec though, it's good to know about these things when they're outside my experience!
formspring.me
How have your recent health issues changed your sex life?
well to be perfectly frank, a broken spine does affect a lot of what one can do. the incipient depression doesn't help either.
but we make do with what's still possible, creative use of pillows and so on.
there's things I miss a lot, that I'm hoping will be possible again after they do the surgery and put in the replacement pieces, even though there's flexibility I'll lose with the rods in place.
I'll gladly trade some flexibility for not being in pain all the time.
formspring.me
That's awkward. Have you given your daughter 'the talk' or are you waiting for/dreading that?
We've always been open with her about it, about feeling alright with your own body and about sex. We answer anything she asks and we've given her several books that're quite frank about adolescence and sexuality and curiosity about it all. We've had several versions of 'the talk' already and I expect those will continue. She also has two "Aunties" that step in when she'd rather talk to another female about it all.
formspring.me
Ever walked in on anyone having sex?
Truthfully only once that I remember, my brother and his GF.
formspring.me
Afi or U2?
oh lord... I don't think I could ever pick one over the other, they've both meant so much at times when I was reaching out for anything, any reason at all to stay, anything to hold on to.
I've met both bands as well and that only makes it even harder.
formspring.me
Even been walked in on while having sex? By who?
Yeah, a few times over the years...
my ex and I got walked in on by his mother.. AWKWARRRRDDDD
and kiddo did once. luckily we heard the door open, so she didn't actually see much of anything.
formspring.me
This is probably a dumb question, but do you let your daughter eat meat or dairy products?
She reacts badly to dairy so the majority of that type of food in our house is soy. Her opinion of eating meat changes with the tides, but right now we need to push the protein intake as much as we can so her arm heals so if she's in the mood for it, I'll cook it for her.
formspring.me
Given the choice, would you get a tail? [Think, the fuzzy blue prehensile type]
Oh hell yes. God I wanted to be Nightcrawler so bad when I was in third grade....
formspring.me
Thundercats or He-Man?
oh man that's hard, I grew up on both cartoons... I still have almost all the Masters of the Universe figures my brother and I collected.. so I guess I have to go with He-Man. Even though the animation for Thundercats was cooler... I guess it comes down to which sidekick was more annoying, Snarf or Orko?
formspring.me
Ever got so drunk you can remember getting drunk?
No, I always had such a tolerance to alcohol that by the time I'd have gotten that drunk I'd have been sick already.
formspring.me
The worst smell in the world is:
Rotting food. I can handle body fluids, dead bodies, skunk smell, even mace/OC spray. But rotting food, especially dairy, just sends me off the deep end sick.
formspring.me
Blues Brothers or Sister Act?
ooohhh, that's hard.... In the end gotta go with Blues Brothers, even though I loves me some Whoopi in that movie, damn.
formspring.me
if you could go one place in the world, where would it be and why
Right now? Santa Fe, New Mexico USA.
See my grandfather like I was supposed to back in July and couldn't because of the crash with the drunk driver. He's 90, I haven't seen him since 1994, I'd like to see him again before he passes.

Works for me :D heheh blue and purple, i'll match kiddo's hair..I'll get on that as soon as festivities are over! LJ PM an address to send it to?Yay! I haz a project!
What was your reaction when you found out you were going to be a parent?Utter terror.
How long did it take to turn into something else, or are you still waiting for that bit?
there's nothing about parenting that isn't terrifying, really.
formspring.me
Can I have a random tale from your EMT days? Preferably one that makes me both stare in awe and do the ick dance.
Well.. here, pick one...
1) Lady who'd been dead for ~2 weeks in July by the time we got called
2) Lady who'd been on the floor for 4 days before anyone missed her (and was alive when we got there; turned out to be a hoarder...)
3) Guy who fell asleep on the train tracks and got run over by a train
4) Lady who attempted suicide with a .22 which didn't actually penetrate her skull but made an almighty mess
formspring.me
Any particular colours in mind? Otherwise you're getting blue and purple with a blue flannel backing. [See my journal for some idea]
Works for me :D heheh blue and purple, i'll match kiddo's hair..

formspring.me
Ever delivered any babies? if the answer is yes, I wanna know how many.
I've been onscene for three deliveries; one live, two not.
formspring.me
Would you let your daughter shave her head?
Already have somewhat... she wanted the back of her head and the sides shaved this summer, so we did it... half her hair right now is also dyed blue and purple. It's her hair... it grows back... so if she wanted to, sure.
formspring.me
Silk sheets or flannel sheets?
flannel. I've had a set of silk ones and they were horrid, all cold and slippery.
formspring.me
So, how did it go with the inlaws?
Ugh. Home now. I lived. Spent more time out on the porch smoking with the dog than inside, I think that helped...
formspring.me
Do you want a scarf? Ok, sure it'll arrive later than the usual seasonal stuff, but I'm more than happy to make something.
awww, sure :3
formspring.me
So, what's rule 1? And the rest of the rules too!
Rule 1: No kid around.
Rule 2: No food.
Rule 3: No pets around.
outside of those it gets kind of changes-by-day...
formspring.me
Do you have a favorite book - the type you've read a hundred times and still go back to regularly?
Several... War for the Oaks, by Emma Bull is one such. The Valdemar series by Misty Lackey is another, the Pern series by Anne McCaffrey, the Thieves' World series are all "comfort food" type reading for me.
formspring.me
What was your reaction when you found out you were going to be a parent?
Utter terror.
23 December 2009
formspring.me
Do you think your height has any effect on your parenting style? Will it when your daughter gets taller than you?
She and I joke about it fairly often, "when I'm taller than Da" is one of her refrains. But I don't think it'll matter much in the long run.
22 December 2009
formspring.me
Musicals?
Very picky about those.
I know, I know, I have a stereotype to live up to, but most of my experience with those came from growing up listening to showtunes on the radio on Sunday mornings.
I'm too broke to have seen many of them live... saw Blood Brothers in London, saw Cats in NYC.. that's about it.
From that radio show I know more of the music than the scenes they belong to.
21 December 2009
formspring.me
Where does your name come from?
I've been 'volare' online since 1992, and that handle came from my car at the time, though indirectly. I drove a '77 Dodge Aspen, and its 'twin' was the Plymouth Volaré. Same car, same engine, as all the Dodge/Plymouths were in that era, just a few nameplate and cosmetic differences. The name stuck and I've used it ever since.
formspring.me
Screaming babies or whiny teenagers?
screaming babies. those I at least know how to calm down and they'll eventually fall asleep.... whinging teens are just apt to get the full blast of my sarcasm after awhile.

I definitely think that corporate America and many of the viewing demographics of American Idol weren't ready for what they saw, so perhaps that was a little bit of a poor choice (mostly timing, since no one's seen him on TV really since AI's end) -- but I don't think that it was an appropriate response for ABC to get so angry and drop his appearance, or for the media and the nation to react like they did. Everyone just kind of double-blinked when Madonna did it, but when Adam did it, a shitfest brewed.
it's the hypocrisy of that last bit that just reinforces my general cynicism with how gays are perceived and treated versus bullshit like the madonna threeway when it's three women in straight relationships smooching for the cameras. it titillates the straight boys so it's okay...
formspring.me
I have Mars and Mercury in Libra so I argue waaaay too much. Wish I had more water in my chart. What do you think the worst aspect in your natal chart is?
scorpio and gemini are like... mortal enemies. so having gemini be such an influence on me makes for a very combative existence at the best of times.
formspring.me
Your opinion on Adam Lambert and the controversy about the AMAs?
Homophobia, indisputably. Noone pulled Madonna or Britney or Xtina off the air when they smooched live onstage..,
formspring.me
I know you have at least a little interest in astrology. Do you know your rising sign and and moon sign? I'm a Libra sun, Pisces rising and Sagittarius moon :)
Scorp sun, Pisces moon, Gemini rising. Terrifying...
Also, Mars in Aries which accounts for some of the "angry" in "short angry...."

Bono? That's not weird. I thought you were gonna say 'a car' or something.
LOL... Like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdDNFJpil50
formspring.me
Ever had sex in public?
Define "in public"... out in the woods, yes.. in a restroom, yes... but not in a way we could've been walked in on.
formspring.me
How often do you get told that you're your own worst enemy? Sure sounds like it sometimes!
Been hearing that since gradeschool....
formspring.me
Do you have a favorite moment from your daughter's baby days?
most of what I remember from back then is OMGlackofsleep... there's some photos of her about 3 months old while our Malamute was "mothering" her -- being all protective and gentle and basically acting like she was her own puppy -- those are precious.
formspring.me
Are you too hard on yourself?
I get told I am, but I don't think I'm hard -enough- most of the time.
formspring.me
Do you fall in love easy?
mmmh.. love... no. love requires trust and trust is rare from me.
formspring.me
It's really easy to not have the energy to keep up with a veg/an lifestyle. It can get complicated enough trying to make sure you know which brands are safe and which aren't -- not even involving the celiac thing which I'm sure makes it at least twice as hard. In any case, current 'favorite' Tokio Hotel song?
asdajklsfhdjshf... I'm still all hung up on Attention.....
formspring.me
I wish I could get you this book. http://www.amazon.com/Flying-Aprons-Gluten-free-Vegan-Baking/dp/1570616299/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1261200889&sr=8-1 What's the most decent-tasting gluten-free food you've ever had?
oh man... best stuff was from a custom glutenfree bakery a few towns over, "Peaches" in Ayer MA. Bread roll things that actually TASTED LIKE BREAD and HAD THE TEXTURE OF BREAD, not extruded foamboard or sawdust. It's really damn hard to do the veg*n thing and be glutenfree too, I admit sometimes I just don't have the energy.
formspring.me
What's your favorite memory?
Depends what mood I'm in... sometimes it's the first time I met Davey Havok, sometimes it's random roadtrip or concert memories, sometimes it's the night m'sweetie and i figured ourselves out after two years of fighting it...

Animals in general seem to find me, yeah. That and you can't say no to those pleading eyes, right?
I had to learn to, when I worked at the vet hospital and the rescue.
formspring.me
Five cats? I'm guessing you're one of those people cats just have a habit of adopting.
Two are almost fifteen now; the surviving two of the first three cats we got when Himself moved in with me in my first apartment.
One is a rescue via a friend, a crazy story of a cat gone missing who then reappeared six months later and the owner had already acquired a new cat, and could only keep one..
and the youngest two (sisters) I found in a box by the side of the road.
Animals in general seem to find me, yeah.
formspring.me
It's ok. My favorite is Just Dance. It has a certain... something to it.
I really need to hear more stuff. Haven't picked up the new record yet...

Ferrets
WEASELS! If I wasn't up to my ass in critters already (3 dogs, 5 cats and a bunny) I'd totally have a pair of ferrets. Animate tubesocks with teeth XD

Which famous person would you get dogs with, given the chance?
Bill, cos he gets it. Dogs in the bed is awesome.
formspring.me
Not even mayo in sandwiches?
no. I get so sick. it's just vile. like, projectile puking vile.
formspring.me
yumm. love me some roast beef with pus on rye...
please don't make me keep thinking about bloody meat, kthxbye
formspring.me
Are there any foods (ones considered rather 'normal' in the setting you grew up in, not odd cultural cuisines) that you absolutely cannot stand and will not eat? I don't mean due to celiac - I mean things that disgust and revolt you for whatever reason.
Mayonnaise. Jello. Anything involving liquid eggs. But majorly mayonnaise. SO. FUCKING. FOUL.
formspring.me
Which famous person would you make a baby with, given the chance?
can we just get dogs instead?
formspring.me
What is your favourite thing about Popmundo? That is, what keeps you coming back for more?
Finally starting to get somewhere with my band, and the ooc aspects like chat, the friendships and conversations I wouldn't ever have the chance to make without the game as a focus point.
(And of course, someone to correct my German slang.....)
formspring.me
If you could miraculously be rid of any one health issue for the rest of your life, which one would it be?
I'd live with the celiac and all the rest of it without ever bitching again if my goddamn spine would suddenly be normal and functioning properly and not causing the chronic pain.
formspring.me
you know me... even when i try to be quiet i'm loud. bitch just didn't give a fuck. i should have shoved my cane up her ass.
I've rammed carts when people just sort of let them drift in front of me like I'm not even fucking there.
formspring.me
i live with the like every day, though at least i don't have to share my living space with the un-gimpmindful. did i tell you what happened to me the other day? was in the d&d's attached to walmart - yes i know walmart is evil... anyway some bitch totally ignores that i am in line in my mart cart - no mean feat considering it's huge and i am not much smaller, with flaming pink hair... and cuts in front of me. THEN proceeds to not even bat an eyelash when I make comments about her having done so. apparently I am invisible now. might be handy if i weren't so gimpy.
i've encountered the "being invisible" thing in the supermarket too. That's where short guy syndrome comes in handy. I can be awfully loud..
formspring.me
this is why i fear your house. it's not exactly gimp-friendly.
now try having to live in it, with people who are completely fucking unaware of what being a gimp now actually entails for me.
formspring.me
True. But on the downside, the last thing you threw off your porch was yourself... sort of.
such a ~graceful~ day that was too.
formspring.me
This is a good thing. If you threw your bed off the back porch you might hurt yourself.
At least my back porch isn't three floors up like the one we had when Dad did it.
15 December 2009
formspring.me
I grew up with plenty of it. But one may still rise above ones upbringing.
true, i'm not a serial cheater or apt to throw my bed off the back porch or scare my own kid so bad she hides from me under a table.
formspring.me
*sigh* must everything be about violence?
well when you grow up with it it sort of sinks in too deep to ever really erase.
formspring.me
What is the sound of one hand clapping? HAH! That should be a difficult one I would think...
the whooshing sound it makes right before i bitchslap someone
formspring.me
What are you afraid of?
Failure.
In all senses of it -- personal, my family, my friends, financially, socially, anything I turn my hand or mind to. I hate it. I hate the feeling of it.
Trying and failing is about the worst thing I can think of for certain things, and it makes me not try at all sometimes.
Too much pride, or the Scorpio perfectionist ego, or a malfunction in my head somewhere, or maybe all three.
formspring.me
LMAO. God. If I ever met either (any?) of 'em in person I'd probably give them a swift kick in the arse. Or break my cane over their head... Or... <insert pain-inflicting action here> and then I remember they would probably like that. UGH. by pinkE

mine was pretty horrific. i was bitten in the face/my mouth. i had 48 stitches in my mouth by a reconstructive plastic surgeon so its not even noticable after 11 years, but i'll always see it.mentally was definatley worse than physical recovering for me it beign on my face and where everyone could see, and i was born with huge lips so it was pretty noticable when it first happened. but i had a great family who alwasy taught me i looked like a badass and could make up a story about ninja's and thats where the scars were from. and it could've been alot worse. i didn't look in a mirror until 2 weeks after the stitches came out but thats was my moms decision and i thank her for that b/c ive seen pictures of what i DID look like and im glad it was hidden from me.this is so long haha but basically if ur supportive and always remind her how beautiful and strong she is, but still let her cry when she needs to she should be stronger from it. by Emmersonxx
thank you for telling your story... my brother's fiancee had the same happen, she was 4 years old, bitten in the face the same way.
I'm doing everything I know how for her. I just hope it's enough.

sorry to be creepy but i saw you talking about how your daughter was bite by a dog. i was bit too when i was 8 i hope it wasnt too bad! i hope she has a good recovery! by Emmersonxx
oh it's not creepy, don't worry. if I talk about it, it's fair game...
It was bad, but not as bad as it could have been. She did what we taught her and shoved her arm in his mouth to keep him from getting her face or neck. He still got both arms, one hand and her back, thirteen stitches in her arm.
How bad was yours, if you care to talk of it?
I'm trying to learn what I need to watch for in the future as far as her mental state after this. Physically the surgery to repair the bite went well and she's healing up pretty well, though she needs physical therapy to get use of that muscle in her arm again.
Thanks for the good wishes, it means a lot, these past days have been hellish.

Do you have a specific type?
Ask my husband*. ;) He puts up with it because he knows he's the source.
A quiet temperament that has to be drawn out, intense dark eyes, dark hair, a sharp jawline and I'm fascinated.
But it's all in who they are in the end, a personality type that can handle me. And that's bloody rare. And that's why I've held on to him since 1994. God knows nobody else could ever have tamed me.
*yes, husband. we do live in Massachusetts. Legal here, you know. Fuck you, Prop. 8.

Do you feel that you are a good parent?
I do the best I can. It's the nature of parenthood to see one's failings in much sharper contrast than your successes, because the evidence of being a good parent plays out very slowly across a lifetime, whereas your fuckups are generally quite immediate.
With her getting bitten last week... no. I didn't feel like a good one at all, because I'm supposed to protect her, I'm not supposed to let things like this happen to her, I should have been out there, I should have known somehow, I wish to god it had been me instead.....
.....this is the litany you hear in your head at night when something bad happens. it doesn't stop for quite awhile.

what three accomplishments are you most proud of? by pinkE
- Pissing off the entire town of Brookline MA by running the HIV/AIDS prevention graphic in the highschool paper.
- Getting my degree and having owned a successful business, for as long as I was physically able to.
- Getting my EMT cert and working in that field for as long as I was able.

Do you think you'll ever have any more children?
We talked about adopting another, but the car crash in 2000 got in the way. And Imp turned out to have ADHD and learning delays (diagnosed for reals and so forth) so in a way it was better we didn't, so we can both focus on her as much as she needs and give her the support she requires.
The only way I see us ending up with another is a way I sincerely hope never comes to pass; we are the godfathers and legal guardians of our dear friends' little girl, should anything happen to them.
She's two now; I was there when she was born. I cut the cord. She is a child of my heart if nothing else, no matter what.

Does the you/your brother rivalry still continue? by goneaway
No.. as soon as we were out of each other's personal space (ie, I moved out) the other side of being brothers could take the lead again. We were always there for one another, even when it meant patching each other's wounds after a fight. We broke a lot of glass...

If there were two of you...
Given how badly my brother and I fought, we probably wouldn't have survived childhood. Nor would the house.
Though with Rellik living here now, SOMEone says it's like having two of me around anyway... people have called us twins in the past.

To your "alter ego": Do you remember the first time?
it was a lot less than three minutes.

If there was one thing in your entire life you could undo, what would it be and why?
Staying with the blind guy for as long as I did. Letting myself get pulled down into the role of a father instead of a lover much too young and having that responsibility on my shoulders instead of living my life. So much I could have done in those years and I'll never get them back.
But if we're talking a little less superficial?
I wouldn't have taken the Rt 111 exit off Rt 2 on Dec 26, 2000. I would have just gone the long way to get home... how many years would have been saved if I'd just driven a few miles more?

Too much love...
"..will kill you, just as sure as none at all... too much love will kill you, make you plead and scream and crawl, and the pain will make you crazy, you're the victim of your crime, too much love will kill you every time"

If there was one food you could have that had gluten in it (without getting a nasty reaction to it), what would it be?
OMGPASTA
rica pasta's okay but it just isn't the same, especially when things like tortellini and ravioli just don't really exist in a glutenfree state due to the limitations of the materials.

From what I can tell, animals are a big part of your life. How have your pets affected you most?
When I was rehabbing my Alaskan Malamute who was a rescue from an abusive situation, the satisfaction that came from seeing her go from scared and vicious to a loving family member was huge. I still miss her every day.

How do you want to be remembered, when all is said and done. As in, what do you want people to say when they look back?
"He did the best he could with what he was given."

Favorite thing about the twins? by kraulitz
That they have each other. Seeing their bond, it's beautiful.
It's also bittersweet, because my father and his twin had that too, and I grew up seeing that. Probably part of why I gravitate so much to them, it's familiar. But it hurts sometimes.
I get yelled at online for being negative when I talk about this, how I hope so, so, so much that they're never separated, that nothing ever happens to them, because I've had to see what happens to the twin left behind when one dies. It makes me sick just thinking about it happening to them.

Of all the causes you support, which one do you feel you support most?
HIV/AIDS cure. It's just hit too hard, way too close, way too many times.
No, I'm not poz, but I've lost family and too many friends, still losing them. My father's identical twin brother's name was Bill too...

what AFI song would you recommend I get off iTunes, having never AFAIK heard them? (tigerbright)
Hurm. Not sure how hard-edged you like your music, though knowing the filk affiliation... Spelunk around Youtube a bit and you can find these...
On the Arrow is one of the single most gorgeous things they've ever put together. Layers of harmonized voices, nearly acapella, with a quiet bitterness in the lyrics you don't always catch at first.
If you like Morrissey at all, go for their cover of Jack the Ripper.
My personal favorite off the new record is End Transmission, although as I told them, it makes me drive waayyyy too fast....

I love that fic! You know, there's not just Javey sex, there's Anthony Fucking Kiedis! Do you like the Chili Peppers? by WithTeeth27
I'm very touch-and-go with them. Either I *ADORE* a song of theirs, or I can't fucking stand it. By the Way and Snow I will listen to given any chance whatsoever, but good god don't play Under the Bridge anywhere near me.. but as a bass player I gotta respect Flea no matter what.

Oh my god, I know that one. Ugh. Sex for Sale, I think? It had Anthony Kiedis in it... by WithTeeth27
YES that one, Kiedis worked in the same office as Jade. THANK YOU.
